For the other part of your comment, I can say that with the last version of ECMAScript pretty much can be done with VanillaJS. I do prefer reactive paradigms instead of jQuery and VanillaJS. In this post, I just wanted to point out that if I had to choose between VanillaJS and jQuery I would choose the former. For the readability part, I agree with you that jQuery is more readable, but it is worth adding a whole library (that actually increases the attack surface in terms of security) just for readability? I don't think so...
