Mastodon: the independent alternative to Twitter

We all know that: Elon Musk is officially in charge of Twitter. A lot of people love him, and a lot of people hate him.

We can all agree on the fact that he is a great entrepreneur, but we can surely disagree about his divisive personality. I don’t wanna lie: I do not like what he’s been doing with Twitter so far, therefore I spent a couple of hours trying to find a valid alternative to Twitter.

The community response to my question was pretty unanimous: the only viable alternative to Twitter is currently Mastodon. In this post, I’m trying to explain to you what is Mastodon and why you should use it (even from a technical perspective). Let’s go!

What is Mastodon and how it works

Mastodon is an open-source social network, it was created back in 2016 by Eugen Rochko as a side project to be an alternative to Twitter. In the past 6 years, Mastodon experienced slow but steady growth and it really became famous in the past weeks due to the acquisition of Twitter by Elon Musk. We can say that today it can be considered a suitable alternative to Twitter.
